Parties in Syria to reach agreement to end conflict

(MENAFN) According to statements released Wednesday, all involved factions in the ongoing Syrian conflict have reportedly agreed on concrete actions aimed at halting the violence. The announcement was made by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who indicated that a resolution could be in effect by nightfall.

"We have engaged all the parties involved in the clashes in Syria. We have agreed on specific steps that will bring this troubling and horrifying situation to an end tonight," Rubio said on X.
"This will require all parties to deliver on the commitments they have made and this is what we fully expect them to do," he added.

Tensions escalated sharply as Israeli airstrikes targeted Syria’s Defense Ministry and areas close to the presidential palace in Damascus. Meanwhile, violent confrontations were already underway in the southern region of Suwayda, involving Druze militias and Bedouin factions. Israel, which had also carried out attacks a day earlier, has justified its military actions as efforts to defend the Druze population.

During a press conference, a spokesperson for the US State Department stated that Washington is urging Damascus to pull back its troops, who were deployed in an effort to stabilize the area.

“We are calling on the Syrian government to, in fact, withdraw their military in order to enable all sides to de-escalate and find a path forward,” Bruce said. “That’s obviously the goal, because of the nature of what’s happened. The Secretary phrased this as a misunderstanding.”
“We do understand that the Israeli forces intervened to protect the Druze — that is something we can confirm,” she added.
